Well, at least until March 3, when I have an appointment to check everything's ok and have the splints taken out.

Yes, splints.

Basically... I my nose was a mess. I had serious overgrowth in the bones around the nasal passages - a huge spur from the middle bone, and an air pocket on one of the side bones that made it grow right out. So I had surgery to remove all the extra bone/cartilage. Pleasant.

Surgery was Thursday afternoon. I'd had a massive headache all day, and couldn't take anything for it (revenge of the nasal bones) so I was pretty spent by the time I got in there. The anesthetist was fantastic; really great guy. However, I was so dehydrated by then that he couldn't get a vein in my hand, so my arm scored. Yay for it. I now have 2 pretty bruises (the one on my hand is the size of a 50c piece and rather pretty coloured).

During the surgery, they have to stick a tube down your throat and pack around it so nothing goes down there during surgery. Unfortunately, I tend not to wake up from anesthetic very well, and true to form, I woke up fighting. My throat was sore and swollen and I remember being rather unhappy with the O2 mask on my face, but I don't remember anything after that.

I woke up a bit later, feeling fairly ok, considering. The last time I woke up from surgery, I felt like crap. Couldn't open my eyes for about 12 hours or so because the room kept spinning. Damn room.

Managed to vomit up over a litre of blood overnight (it drains down the back of your throat while you sleep post-op - YUM) which the nurses were none too impressed about. And I also vomited up anything I ate, which again, did not please the nurses. I eventually managed to keep a piece of vegemite toast down (vegemite cures *everything*) and they let me go home around lunch on Friday.

Other than that, getting better. I have finally achieved the awesomeness of being able to breathe through both nostrils (for all of two minutes) and the amazing disgustingness of sinus wash. EWW.

Nose is very blocked (I'm pretty sure the big plastic splints aren't helping), and is still running like a tap. Which means I can't yell very well (which I found out today with my Year 9s. Excellent.) and have trouble talking for long periods of time (a sentence is pushing it).

Can't smile. Top lip still not functioning properly, which is rather irritating, because I like laughing and smiling, and tend to do it quite a bit.

Ended up ditching work today early. I really over-did it thinking I could survive. Managed to teach one class then packed up off to the doctor who gave me some nice stuff to make my stomach feel better (it's traumatised, I think).

Have been told to have tomorrow off as well. So I'll be having tomorrow off. Everyone at school was just so lovely, really. They all took one look at me and asked me what the hell I was doing there. Several of them even offered to drive me to the doctor and home if I needed. So lovely.

So yes. Lots of joy and laughter over here...

Colds suck. Seriously. Never had one, but I've seen others have them, and they suck. Lots.

*laughs* Thanks, hon. I'm getting there slowly. I can breathe through *both* nostrils now! Whooo!

You know it's sad when breathing is an achievement...
