Yes, that's right. Grumpy.

I am on a diet. A ridiculous diet. This diet involves no wheat, no sugar and no yeast. And considering dairy products are already a touchy subject, very few of those.

What does this leave me to eat, I hear you ask. Well, very little.

- Vegies (limited potatoes)
- Salad (no dressing)
- Meat (including chicken and fish)
- Nuts (no pistachios or hazelnuts)
- .....

Yes, that's about it. It's quite ridiculous.

I am actually beginning to possibly feel sorry for my classes over the next two months. I'm probably going to have slightly less grace than I normally do...

Off to assembly I go.

  • 12:50 @chiroho *End up* with an enormous amount? ;) #
  • 12:51 thinks everyone should go and read Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta. It'll be available in the US as well in Spring 2010. Go! Read! #
  • 15:32 Haha! I like that. Actually, I had to read it for the library. So technically it was school work, so I wasn't technically procrastinating... #
  • 15:33 is stoked her English meeting lasted all of 2 minutes. On the downside, I now have no excuse to not mark. Dammit. #
  • 07:31 is at school already. *eyes clock* #
  • 07:33 can't remember what her facebook status was last night, and really wishes she could so she could understand what all the comments mean. #

Ooh! It works, it works!

I guess it's amusing that I'm amazed something works.

Ok, ok, back to marking.

I have to leave school early to go to a Pre-Admission Clinic for my operation.

I really could have used the time today to finish planning and meeting with people and planning and sorting out timetables and planning. Gah.

I promise I will do a decent post on school soon. It's been fantastic so far though - I'm totally stoked to be here. Everyone's been awesome and friendly and wonderful.

So yes. Must leave in 30 minutes, and I still have to sit down with a colleague and plan Year 9 English for this term. Spectacular.

In other related news, I'm finding it easier to update Twitter than to write a whole journal post for the moment. Does anyone know how to get LJ to post on my journal what I post on Twitter? (I know it has something to do with RSS and feeds and stuff, but the help files were wholly unhelpful.)

The bosses (all four of them) are here having meetings, fixing computers, etc. It's very annoying, because it means I need to be careful about what I have on my screen. They tend to frown on people being online. And they keep popping out the door behind me, which means I have about 0.44395834958 of a second to hit alt-tab. (Ahh, alt-tab, you are my hero.)

Very. Annoying.

Anyway. Not alot happening at the moment. Iain has taken a week off next week, so, obviously, I'm working every day. I've worked a grand total of about 10 days in the last 2 months, and they choose this week to really need me. *grumbles* Oh well, I suppose the money will be handy, considering we have to buy a second car soon, and I need a few more teacher-y clothes. Hmmm.

I start school in less than a week. Freaking. Out.

Am I the only loser person stuck in front of a computer on a Saturday night?

I'm doing an education essay. Someone save me from my boredom...
mebfeath: (Default)
I have two new toys - a washing machine and a clothes dryer!

Well, I don't have the washing machine just yet - they ran out of stock, so it'll be ready later this week or next week.

Anyways - our washing machine, which is a top loader, decided to kick the bucket on the weekend, and we're not sure if it can be fixed. We'd wanted a new washing machine for ages because ours was given to us and a little old - and it used faaar too much water. So we have a new front loader, which has a much better water rating. And now we have room for a dryer, which will sit on top. And we got a great deal.

And the weather has been very obliging; they've forecasted rain for the next week straight. Hee.

It occurred to me this week that I should probably start working on the three essays that are due at the end of the month, considering I lost last weekend to sickness. Joy. Thus I have started one of the education ones. I'm getting bored with it, so I might move to History in a minute.

I'm loving education this semester; most of the work is subjective and personal reflection, so I can just make random notes for a few weeks and then type my heart out. Almost no research required. Fantastic.

I have to do 5 days worth of prac for one of the education subjects. Because I have nothing better to do with my time. I hate how they think that students live in this magical world where their entire lives are devoted to Uni and doing Uni work and turning up to Uni classes. *sighs*

*yawns* I need a nap.

Observation for the week: Bus drivers who consider it their personal mandate to break the land-speed record each trip are not cool.
mebfeath: (i has a bukket...more pirates!)
I have just emailed off my essay. Bibliography to follow tomorrow (long story) and then I just have to wait for the official verdict.

He had better give me a pass.

I'm feeling alot better today, which is good. Nose has stopped running, lung have stopped trying to leave my body, and even the headache is almost gone. I am sore all over from coughing, but that's to be expected. I'm pretty stoked at how quickly I've gotten better; usually these things drag on for weeks with me. Yay! God rocks!

Mmm...lunch...then a snooze, I think.

I'm sick again. Well, I'm getting better now. But still feel like crap. It's the usual; sinus, coughing, achy-sore muscles, swinging between shivering and sweating like crazy. Not cool. I hate it so.

No work tomorrow for me. I'm bummed because it was a long shift, and I feel bad, but I did tell them I was sick on Friday. And nobody cared. So, tough.

I must not be bitter. *sighs* I'm just feeling a bit used and abused, that's all. I'll get over it.

Essay is almost done; I'll finish it tomorrow. I did most of it yesterday, which was good - all I have to do now is finish one small section, do the intro and conclusion and references. I just don't feel up to it today.

*yawn* Time for a snooze, I think. If I can get warm enough.
mebfeath: (Meh - hritza)
I spent a couple of hours last night at the Emergency Dept of the Royal Brisbane and a medical centre down the road.

I now have 4 stitches in my left hand, between my index (pointer) finger and middle finger. *sighs*

I was very stupidly cutting an avocado for a salad last night, and I slipped. It was quite convenient that my family and father-in-law were all there for a BBQ, so my father-in-law and Iain took me to the Royal and then on to the medical centre because there was going to be a few hours' wait at the hospital.

It's quite long and deep. The guy who did it did quite a good job; he initially thought it would only be one or two, but then he got sewing, and realised just how long it was.

It's very annoying and frustrating though; I can't use it at all and it hurts and my two fingers are swollen. My hand is all bandaged up.

The stitches come out next Wednesday. And I'm flying to Sydney tomorrow; come home Sunday. I can't even do my own hair!
mebfeath: (wickham is totally not awesome) here's an update.

Uni is over for the semester. YAYZ. Results out 4th July. Which is in a week. OOH. I want to know what I got for ancient history. Oh, and media studies. Considering I never got a piece of assessment back the whole semester. Awesome.

I am currently organising data input for my boss's cervical cancer prevention scheme in Vanuatu. Boring, but interesting. Don't ask me how that works. And don't ask how I managed to get roped into it, either.

Am recovering from sinus infection slowly. Feeling generally better, but sinuses are still giving me headaches, so they're obviously not.

Work is busy, as usual. No change there.

My husband is well. No change there either!

Umm...other than that, there's not a lot, really. Other than the usual catching up with family and friends. And each other. I feel like I haven't seen my husband in months. Not cool.

So yes. The end.

mebfeath: (wickham is totally not awesome)

It is THIRTEEN DEGREES. (That's like, 39 in Fahrenheit.)

My hands won't work properly, dammit.

I have the oil heater going in my bedroom, so I'm going to finish these notes, read through them and then go and have a sleep. Where it's WARM.

On the upside, I'm feeling much better. Still slightly flat, but that's probably due to the fact that I didn't get alot of sleep last night. I kept waking up sweating, and then cold, and then sweating, etc. Twas pure joy. We're hitting the parents (in-law) for dinner, so I'd like to not fall asleep during dinner. Not cool.

Must study. Must. Get. Warm.

I feel like crap.

Yes, I am sick. Again. I have my usual sinusy-sore throat-achy thing. This time, I have a fever. How exciting! *sniffle*

I am hoping I get over this super-fast because I have an exam on Saturday and I would like to actually study before it. Unfortunately, I cannot wing this one. I simply do not know enough to pass. Tragically.

Work today has been a bit of a trial, but ok. I have anti-biotics which hopefully should work. I'm having tomorrow off, which is wonderful because I have this stupid Vanuatu stuff to get done aswell.

I'd like to clarify what I said about Pirates in my last post... )

I like that much better. Much. *nods*

And I'm stuck at work here until goodness knows when because an emergency patient has rocked up. *sighs* I'm hungry, and I've got homegroup tonight. Of all the nights!
mebfeath: (Default)
I want my essay results. *whines* It's not fair. They're at uni all ready for me to collect and I can't for *ages* because I'm working. WOE IS ME. Maybe if I tell myself I have to get my essay done so I can take it in and get the results at the same time...or I could just email my lecturer. Hmmm.

Saw Pirates last night... )

We saw the 9pm session in Gold Class, and thus we didn't get to bed until about 1am. And I was up at 6am. Surprisingly, I don't feel tired. I did have a sleep for an hour in the afternoon, but still. I don't usually do well on 5 hours sleep.
mebfeath: (clouds and sky and ahhhh)
The last few days have been pretty intense, with minimal sleep, which is always a bad combination for Heather. Thus, I am tired and going to bed soon. Yay.

Skipped my ancient history lecture this afternoon; I'd already spent four hours in classes, and was pretty exhausted. Plus she's putting all the lecture notes up on the web, and the handouts are really comprehensive, so I'm all good.

Am researching for my media studies blog ([ profile] mstumusings). I completely forgot about it while we were away. Ooops. So yes; some stuff shall start appearing on their soon, hopefully. Please feel free to comment - I really would appreciate anything you guys think.

Anyway, bedtime. I'm tired.

I'm sick. The first time this year. Dammit. I suppose it's good I'm sick now as opposed to in 2 weeks time. But still. Ick.

It's just the usual sinus stuff - I didn't really get enough sleep over the weekend, and my sinuses have been horrible the last week or so, so I should have seen it coming. I didn't feel all that great yesterday evening, so I guess that was my hint.

I'm going to try and take Wednesday off. I only have media studies lecture and tute, and an ancient history lecture. I'm not going to bother with the media studies stuff - it's useless. I'll just get the notes off the net and read the readings. I'll come in for ancient history though. We have a new lecturer for the second half of the semester, so I want to be around for that. I can't really take tomorrow off because I'm working with one of the specialists all day. I'll just sit upstairs and drink hot tea and suck vicks. I don't really have to do anything other than whatever he tells me, which isn't much. I should probably do some scanning or something...ah, I'll sort it out tomorrow. But yay for specialists.

I finished the media studies bibliography thing yesterday. YAY. I just have to hand it in now. I need to do that today otherwise I'll have to be here before 10am on Wednesday, which is what I don't want to do. Must remember.

All I have to do now is English. Yay.
mebfeath: (I feel like crap on toast)
I have sinus. As in nose-running, eyes-watering, head-swimming, generally-ickness sinus.

I have my history exam this afternoon, *and* the media studies oral today. Of all the days to get this, it just HAD to be today. *kicks body*

I've taken some of the strongest anti-histamines you can buy, am sucking on Vicks Vapodrops (for the nose and throat) but I still feel meh.

I've emailed my lecturer letting her know what's going on, and asking what would happen if I didn't turn up. Unless I feel significantly worse, I'm going to go anyway. I'm hoping once the anti-histamine kicks in, I should be ok. And I have Advil for the headache.

Feel free to pray that I get better miraculously.

I must go and study now.

ETA - My lecture just got back to me. That was quick. She's had to set another exam for 2 weeks time anyway, so at least I have that option. She said I should see how I feel, which is what I'll do. I'm still planning on going at this stage.
mebfeath: (Default)
I do not wish to read ANY. MORE. ancient sources. Not Tacitus, or Plutarch, or Pliny, or Suetonius.

I still have to read Tacitus, Dio, and probably some Josephus. *sighs*

I just have no motivation. None. I think it's because I'm tired. And because I've been doing this assignment since the DAWN OF TIME, DAMMIT.

Ok, so it's three weeks, but I've still got oooodles to read. And that doesn't include stuff written by people who are actually STILL ALIVE.

Heh. I'm never doing honours. You spend the whole year researching and writing ONE essay. When I say I have the attention span of a gnat unless I'm actually interested or about to fail, I mean it. Zippo.

Maybe I should start researching for media studies. That's technically due before ancient history....

Ooh yay ancient history lecture in half an hour. Excuse me while I shoot myself.
