TITLE - Walking Flower Bushes
AUTHOR - Feather
FAULT -
iainc. Heh. You know why!
SUMMARY - It's too short for a summary. The title is a big hint though.
PAIRING - Sam/Jack. As if it would be anything else....I'm not like you people. *g*
AUTHOR'S NOTES - I found this this evening, and I don't know what possessed me to finish it. Hope it's not too bad...
Sam walked down the halls of the SGC, reading through the latest results the computer had spat
out at her from the naquadah reactor. Merrin had helped, but Sam was still far from even
thinking of using it for anything. She glanced up and saw...
Oh.
My.
...a bunch of flowers walking towards her.
She stopped.
It didn't.
It took a second for Sam to realise that the flowers were still heading straight for her, but she eventually took several steps sideways and backed up against the wall, allowing the walking bush to pass.
Sam's eyes widened when it spoke to her as it passed.
'Major.'
Watching it leave, she turned and headed for her lab, meeting Colonel O'Neill on the way.
'Carter.'
'Sir.' She stopped in her doorway, trying to figure out a way to phrase what she wanted to ask without Colonel O'Neill hauling her to Janet.
'Uh, Sir...did you just see...never mind.'
And failing spectacularly.
'Carter?' He looked at her inquisitively. 'Is something wrong?'
'I think I hit my head during the night...' Seeing his confused face, she changed her answer. '...No, Sir. I don't think so.'
'Good. Cause you're scaring me.'
'Sorry, Sir.'
She walked into her lab and started fiddling with the reactor.
'Was there something you wanted, Colonel?'
'Uh...nope.'
'Oh. Ok.'
He stood there in the doorway, watching her. She stopped, looked up at him and her eyes widened.
'There!' She pointed behind him and he spun on his heel, just missing the large walking flower bush. She rocketed past him and stopped, watching it walk down the hall. Jack followed her and stopped right behind her.
'Carter? What the hell...is that?'
'Walking flower bush? I have no idea, Sir.'
Jack grabbed an Airman who was walking past. 'Do you see that?' he asked, pointing down the hall. The Airman turned, glanced at the walking tree and turned back to Jack.
'Yes, Sir.'
'Good. What is it?'
'It's Valentine's Day, Sir,' was all he said, a puzzled look on his face.
'Right. Dismissed.' The Airman walked off, shaking his head.
Sam smothered a grin.
'Walking flower bush?' Jack asked her, as they headed back into her office.
*
'So, it's Valentine's Day, huh?' Jack asked just as Daniel and Teal'c wandered in.
'It would appear so, Jack.'
'Oh.'
'What is Valentine's Day?' Teal'c asked.
'Oh. It's actually called St Valentine's Day and-'
'Basically it's a day where people give stuff to people they care about.'
'Thanks, Jack. I was getting to that.'
'By the time you got there, it would have been too late.'
Daniel shot him a look, but ignored him.
'What kind of things?'
'Chocolate, Flowers, Cards, that kind of thing.'
'I see.'
'So, Danny....who's the lucky girl?'
Daniel stared at him.
'Tell me you saw the flowers.'
Daniel raised his eyebrows.
'I thought...no, that wasn't me.'
Jack frowned.
'Who was it?'
'I don't know.'
'I believe it was from Major Kendall to his wife,' Teal'c stuck in.
'Ah.'
'Oh, that's nice.'
'They were huge!' Jack protested.
'I know.'
'What's she going to do with them in her office? It's smaller than mine!'
'I don't know, Jack. I doubt they're going to stay there for long.'
'Still,' Jack muttered.
'Are you not participating in this day, DanielJackson?' Teal'c enquired.
'No, Teal'c. Shau're and my parents are dead, so I really have no-one to send anything to.'
'I'm sorry,' Teal'c bowed. 'What of you, O'Neill?'
'I'm good, T.'
Teal'c cocked his head slightly, but said nothing.
*
Sam walked into her lab, thumbing through a report, oblivious to anything around her.
'Hey Sam,' Daniel smiled as he wandered into her lab.
'Daniel. What's up?'
'Nothing. Pouring through hundreds of pages of Alien text was giving me a headache.'
Sam grinned.
'Join the club. Except mine is pages of data.'
'Sounds fun.'
'Oh yeah.'
'Wanna get some coffee?'
'Sure.' Sam plonked the report on her table. 'Let's go.'
'The SGC has gone crazy. You'd think people had never had Valentine's Day before,' Daniel commented as he watched three airmen walk past laden with flowers, chocolates and other paraphenalia.
'Yeah. Crazy,' Sam muttered into coffee.
'So, how's....whatever it is you're working on going?'
'Good. A few weird readings here and there, but I'm working those out. Slowly.'
Daniel grinned as Sam rolled her eyes.
'What about you? Hundreds of pages of Alien text?'
'Yeah. With few references, no background knowledge, nothing at the site to indicate origin, and absolutely no help from archaeology.com, so all in all, I'm dead.'
Sam laughed. 'That bad?'
Daniel nodded. 'Not good.'
'Sounds fun.'
'Swap?'
'Wanna get nothing done today?'
'Wanna blow up your lab?'
'Done.' And they shook hands.
*
The little blue package looked up at Sam, also having no idea why it was sitting where it was.
All it knew was that it was picked up very quickly, paid for and took a rollercoaster somewhere. To here, apparently.
Sam scratched her head absent-mindedly.
Hmmm.
Picking up the small blue box, she looked around, half to make sure no-one was watching, and half to make sure she wasn't going nuts.
She pulled at the blue string that held the lid on, undoing it carefully.
She pulled off the lid to show...
...a small silver square.
Sam raised an eyebrow.
She picked the square up and held it in her hand.
It was cool - definitely metallic.
Hmmm.
She turned it over.
Whoa.
On the other side was a picture of Earth, from space.
Whoa.
Looking in the box again, she saw the chain.
She pulled it out.
It fit nicely around her wrist.
Pulling out the small piece of blue paper, she read it.
'Corny, I know. But then again, it's better than a walking flower bush.'
THE END
Don't expect this to become a regular occurance. *g*
