I got this email from Kylie Johnson, the head of Education at UQ.
Hello Heather,
I regret to inform you that the information I provided you in an earlier email is incorrect. I have discovered that EDUC2029 will not be offered in 2004 due to the Dual Degree program structure change.
With these changes, it means that EDUC2029 is no longer a compulsory course, it is now an elective and you will be able to pick up another course in its place. The changes are as follows:
Part A of the Bachelor of Education requires completion of 4 compulsory education courses and 4 elective education courses. These must be completed in conjunction with the non education degree.
Compulsory Courses:
EDUC1029 Introduction to Education [course code different]
EDUC2019 Mind Culture and Difference
EDUC2049 Youth Cultures and Adolescent Development
EDUC3079 Teacher's Work in Contemporary Contexts
Electives List 1:
Students must complete #4 from this list
EDUC2029 Language and Discourse in Education
EDUC2039 Media and Technologies in Education
EDUC2080 Introduction to Special Education
EDUC2090 Indigenous Knowledge in Education
Electives List 2:
Students must complete #4 from this list
EDUC2029 Language and Discourse in Education
EDUC2039 Media and Technologies in Education
EDUC2050 Introduction to Teaching English as a Second Language
EDUC2060 Literature in the Secondary School Context
EDUC2080 Introduction to Special Education
EDUC2090 Indigenous Knowledge in Education
I apologise profusely for having inconvenienced you.
Regards,
Kylie Johnson.
ETA - I've bolded the ones I think I've done. There should only be three, but they may appear twice.
And they've changed the course codes, so I have no idea what I've done. I can only go by the course descriptions, which hopefully should be enough to guess which ones are which. And the Elective thing doesn't even make sense, if you look at it - elective two is the same as elective one, just with 2 added courses.
And one has to wonder how she just 'discovered' - she's the HEAD of the department, FCOL!
I wish I swore.

Date: 2004-02-01 05:16 am (UTC)- where there was structure, there is now none.
- where there was help, there is none.
- where there were course codes, there are new ones.
- where there was annoyance, there is now frustration.
Basically, they've screwed the whole thing round, so as long as we do the compulsory ones and enough electives, they don't care when we do them. That's UQ for you. Grr!
