Oh we could get into this debate. But I am just thankful that you lot took that ego-driven, testosterone-happy, Wendell Sailor off of our hands. He was truly beginning to be an asshole.....
Well, I'm totally bias, as I'll happily admit, because I played Union, and my father played Union for Newport in Wales. I also think it's a much faster paced game, which can be a lot more exciting to watch.
But everyone likes what they like.
And I hate Wendell Sailor. He should never have been picked for anything. The guy is all ego.
The best convert in recent years from League back to Union is Matt Rogers, who is EXCELLENT!
See - I am not a fan of the game. Either way sport's sport, and I am religiously against. So Union or League - a ball's a ball. People do what they like.
I watch State of Origin - three games in a year - because of the CULTURAL significance for the community. It has a sense of honour and spirit to it, and the fan support and energy is just amazing. :)
I guess I grew up playing sport, and see it as a good thing for my kids to do to stay fit, so I'm not against it. My dad also watched a lot, which makes a difference in you as you grow up.
And yes, the SOO does have a cultural significance. But then there is also lots of significance on the annual NSW Rugby v QLD Rubgy match. It's just not as hyped.

Date: 2005-05-25 01:34 pm (UTC)Just admit that Origin is a man's game. And there were only a few men on that field tonight. And they ALL were on the Maroon side. ;)

Date: 2005-05-25 01:54 pm (UTC)At least the 'tah's thumped the Maroons, and have now made the Super 12 final, and that's a REAL sport. ;)
And why was it you didn't respond to my post about that, hmmmm?

Maybe not, but it looked like a good year for once.
They have a population of like ZIP.
And yet somehow they have the best Australian team in the S12 for most of the past five years.
