Poll Quits International Football

ENGLISH referee Graham Poll has decided to retire from international tournaments after his high-profile blunder in the Australia-Croatia Group F game at the World Cup finals. He showed three yellow cards to Josip Simunic of Croatia before sending him off in the 2-2 draw on June 22. A clearly emotional Poll said on Sky Sports News that he deeply regretted his mistake, which he described as "inexcusable".

I don't think he should have retired; he had a good track record until this game. I kinda feel bad.

I was chatting with our distributor in the UK the other day, and he said that the problem with Graham Poll is that he's full of his own brilliance. He is a good ref, but he knows it very well and wants everyone else to know it.

I agree though, that he shouldn't have had to retire from international tournaments, though I'm sure he'll still be reffing the English Premier League. There were other refs in the tournament that were much worse. Like that one in our game with Italy ....

Oh, ok. Makes sense.

Yeah, a couple of people I've talked to have said he'll continue to ref Premier League and stuff, so it's not all bad.

*laughs* HECK yeah. We just seemed to get a really bad run of refs...
